According to Greenwich Police, numerous witnesses have been identified and the investigators are still in the process of completing some interviews.
The crash, that killed Devon R. Dalio, 42, of New York City, occurred around 3:50 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Riverside Commons Shopping Center located at 1233 East Putnam Ave., in Greenwich when a 2016 Audi, drove over the parking strip, mounted the curb, crashed through the Verizon storefront doors, and traveled completely into the store.
The vehicle burst into flames, which in turn set the store on fire, Greenwich Police said.
Dalio's body was found inside the vehicle when the fire was extinguished.
Evidence from the crash continues to be collected and analyzed with some results still pending, said Greenwich PD Captain Mark E. Zuccerella.
The Medical Examiner's Office confirmed on Monday, Dec. 21 that the body was that of Dalio, he added.
"This investigation has many components and the Greenwich Police Department wants to ensure all avenues are appropriately assessed and its findings are properly documented," Zuccerella said.
The Greenwich Police Department is in contact with the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and are currently waiting on their official results.
The department is also working with the Greenwich Fire Marshall’s office regarding the fire cause and origin, he added.
"The Greenwich Police Department continues to express its deepest condolences to the Dalio family," Zuccerella said.
